What happened in Ballarat, the lessons learned

Here I go getting the story on record as vague as I can. For the tell-all version, you'll have to find my other blog which I doubt you can so you're gonna have to make do with this version.

On the scale of unpleasantness writing a blog post right now is slightly a little less unpleasant than studying. On the same scale of unpleasantness, I don't know where the whole 3 weeks of Ballarat would be. It depends on what side of the bed I get up on each day. My feelings regarding those 3 weeks range from rather bleak to "hey it's over" (which is such a cop-out kind of feeling).

The worst of it was finding out what you thought about a certain situation/place/person was fucking spot-on. Somehow confirmation of what was in my head, the absolute worst thing that I thought could happen, actually made it worst. I tend to think in a sort of worst-case scenarios so when slightly less-bad scenarios happen I can at least say to myself "well, at least it's not the worst thing that can happen". I thought if the worst-case scenarios ever become reality I would say, in my usual outwardly nonchalance, to myself "hey, you've lived through the worst, there's nothing worse", except, maybe, that happening again.

  • Lesson learned no. 1: do not ever try to confirm the worst.

If you know me, I'm not a big fan of confrontations. I don't go looking for them, I ignore them if they pop up, I even go as far as accepting responsibility even if it isn't actually my fault. All in the name of keeping the peace. On a good day when I'm puffed full of my own importance I would say I was being noble. On a bad day I would say I was being a coward. On a normal day I would not acknowledge that I have two rather polarised positions on the same issue, which, unsurprisingly and ironically enough, brings us back to my avoidance of confrontations even self-confrontations.

  • Lesson learned no. 2: be less noble or grow a spine, start looking out for your own interests instead of other people's.

This is kinda related to lesson no. 1 and 2 for that matter, I had a recent conversation with a friend whereupon the questions "When did you realise that a certain situation/person can be like that? Didn't you already suspect that something like that can happen?" were asked. My replies to those would be "a long time ago" and "yeah". What I thought was only my opinion and people's opinions can differ greatly. Fuck it, even my own opinions on the same thing can differ greatly. I usually shelf my opinion until someone else voiced a similar view. I don't know why I need to validate my own opinion that way. Maybe it's because I'm not quite comfortable with feelings that are not the norm. Or maybe I just don't want to think the worst of every situation/person, I'm already cynical, I don't need to be more cynical.

  • Lesson learned no. 3: what you feel is absolutely perfect even if it's not the norm.

In regards to the lessons learned, I think that the whole trip was quite illuminating, how else are you gonna learn if you don't make a mess of it? The same cannot be said for lesson no. 4 which I did learn in those 3 weeks.

  • Lesson learned no. 4: I don't think I've been doing number 2 correctly.

There, I hope this post explains something or maybe nothing, I know it doesn't really tell you what happened and there's the whole introspective self-centred ramblings going on (introverts are self-centred I tell ya, all the things that are wrong have got to have something to do with them) but that's all you're gonna get here.

on the lack of a meaningful post last week

Considering last week was the week that my birthday this year was in, I should have posted something more meaningful than the PG-rated version of "2 girls, 1 cup" video. That video of the chimp (monkey?) is so similar to the "2 girls, 1 cup" thing, except for the X-rated video had 2 girls whereas the PG-rated thing has only 1 chimp of unknown gender to me.

I didn't even comment on the Sorry speech and all that followed, which I will be doing now. I would like to thank Kevin Rudd for turning the usual rather meaningless day before Valentine's day into the "Historic National Sorry Day" from now on. Thanks a lot, all the people that were born on the 13th of February can now respond to the question "When is your birthday?" with "Sorry day" instead of "The Day before Valentine's day".

Seriously though, I think Kevin Rudd saying sorry to the Aborigines was the right thing to do, it was done with what I hope to be good intentions. Let's hope we all learn something and move on. If we haven't, well, the forty something compensation claims probably will. On Brendan Nelson, well I haven't decided what he is, a man who stood by what he believes or an incredible stubborn idiot. Whatever he is, I don't think he's gonna win any election.

Back to the topic, I didn't post anything meaningful last week because I didn't feel like it was a special week/day. I wasn't excited about my birthday at all, if anything I felt a bit nervous, uneasy and sad. Trust me, it's normal, I feel like that every birthday which is why I don't ever celebrate my birthday.

I've just reread that last paragraph and realised that I didn't described what I felt quite correctly. I wasn't exactly sad, I was something else I can't quite find a word to describe. Lucky for me some talented person/people probably felt the same way about their 24th birthday. Give it a listen.

Twenty four

don't count chickens

Some wise person somewhere some time in the past had made a very good piece of advice: "don't count your chickens before they're hatched". It's one timeless piece of advice right? It can be applied anywhere, anytime and you don't even need to change anything. Just say that and you appear sophisticated or at the very least remotely well-versed in English idioms. A scenario first.

Student (busy setting up suction filter equipment at the start of the experiment)

Kindly instructor who happened to be well-versed in the English language:
Why are you setting up suction filter? You haven't dissolve 4g of 4-methylaniline in 200 ml of water and concentrated hydrochloric acid, warm and stir the mixture using a hotplate stirrer to assist the dissolution process yet.

Student:
Wouldn't it be faster if you just say "you haven't done steps 1 through to 4 yet, why are you setting up equipments for step 5"?

Kindly instructor who happened to be well-versed in the English language:
Don't be pedantic and that is beside my point. My point is you don't know if you're gonna have any yield to start filtering. Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.

OK, OK, I know what you're thinking, that scenario is awfully staged and no one talks like that and that instructor sounds like he's got the whole second year medchem prac book memorised word by word (which is impossible). My point with the above scenario is to introduce you to the wonderful English phrase: "don't count your chickens before they're hatched". Why is that I wonder, why isn't it "don't count your children before they're born" or "don't count your sperms before they're ejaculated ejected"? Why chickens? Anyhow, the point of all the above ramblings is that I got myself into a situation, not a serious one but one nonetheless, which brought that saying into my mind.

I have 2 ipods, I like to consider them one and a quarter of an ipod rather than 2 ipods. One is new, which I bought 3 weeks before they released the new line of ipod and which I'm still pissed about. One is only a quarter of its former self due to 3 years of almost everyday use. I was thinking about bringing it into one of those ipod repair centres last week, I got a quote for a battery change and it's a hundred bucks to change the battery. That's almost a third of a new 80 gig ipod already, no way I'm gonna pay that. So the only other option is to buy replacement battery off eBay and do it myself.

The first part is easy. I ordered one 2 days ago, and went look around for guides on how to do it on the net. I found a bunch of guides, looked through them and got myself so excited about changing the battery that I went ahead to open my ipod up that day, without the new battery. Here are some pictures I took after open my ipod with a few pieces of metal lying around on my desk.

The screwdrivers didn't help at all with removing the metal case because:
a. they're tiny and they're supposed to be for those tiny screws
b. they're dodgy Chinese fake screwdrivers.
I used the 2 pieces of metal on the top left-ish of the picture to open it. If you're wondering what they are, they're some thing I got when I bought my cork board and they've been lying around on my desk. Seriously, I'm resourceful. Open an ipod up using cork board hanger, that's rated right up there with Jason Bourne's feats of stabbing secret agents with ballpoint pens and suffocate people with towel.

I needed the dodgy Chinese screwdrivers and metal bookmark to remove the battery. As of this moment the ipod is looking like the above picture and is lying in a drawer out of sight waiting for the battery, that should be arriving tomorrow or on Monday. It still works fine without a battery and with its internal organ on display like that once it's plugged in a power source so I think I haven't wrecked anything.

So the moral of the story, well, there isn't one but there will be if the battery I ordered is the wrong one, is that you should not open your ipod before you've received the replacement battery. See, I do have a point with that lame "don't count your chickens" dialogue.

Monday tid bits

If you haven't noticed yet, change of template yet again. You might think that nothing changed much but the experience resembled what you would feel sitting in a toilet after a week or more of taking Panadeine following wisdom teeth extraction (I was trying to figure a cooler way to say "pain in the ass" and I arrived at "pain in the rectum" or "bad case of constipation". I am just so original). For someone who doesn't know a whole lot about codes I'm doing OK.

Today's WTFs taken straight out of TheAge:
Gay republicans. Is this some sort of oxymoron? This is from the article about a senator quitting over men's room sex scandal. So people really do hit on other people in the toilet, I thought that is some sort of porn myth.

Remind me why did the Korean missionaries go to Afghanistan in the first place? Because I thought that what missionaries do is try to convert other people to their religion right? What's the point of going to Afghanistan to convert people when there are still people in Korea that are not Christian?

There about 9 million Protestants and 5.5 million Catholics in this country of 49 million people.
Why go to a foreign country when there are 34.5 million people waiting to be converted at home? These missionaries are daft in more ways than one.

Awesome band names:
  • Holy Fuck. I'm being serious, there is a band called Holy Fuck and their music is really good, fits the name. If the goal of a band's name is to attract listeners then this is probably the best name ever. It worked on me, I checked out this band only on the merit of their awesome name. Is there a band called Holy Shit?
  • Streptococci in chains. A band name I thought up during a lecture. Does this name make you wanna go: "holy fuck, that is one bad name"?

Random microbiology fact:
Streptococci are Gram positive cocci which are usually in chains.

coming to an illegally downloaded song very soon: product placement

Well well, I was talking about Fergie just yesterday, or rather I was quoting UrbandDictionary on Fergie yesterday, and now here she is again. I think I'm a bit slow to join this party but hey, better late than never. Besides, I'm one of the opinionated online bloggers who refuse to let an opportunity to make my onion opinion known slide.

Since record sales are declining or at least that's what Fergie is claiming, people who are like you and me (i.e. people who obtain illegal mp3s and only buy music that we really really like) should expect to hear jingles for Listerine cleverly worked into our songs by our beloved artists pretty soon.

If you're going "what the ...?", this article (via Post Chronicle) will clear it up.

Fergie is set to make £2 million by promoting a US clothing firm in her songs.

The 32-year-old Black Eyed Peas singer, who has become the first star to agree to product placement in her songs, will write and perform tracks endorsing fashion company Candie's on her second solo album.

An executive at Fergie's record label Interscope said: "With record sales in decline, you must find novel ways to make money out of the music. The trick is to make the brand part of the song so that it slips down easily rather than chokes the fan.

"Candie's will have no say over exactly what Fergie will sing, or when. Fergie does not sing jingles so it will have to work unobtrusively in the song."

Fergie - real name Stacy Ann Ferguson - has also agreed to appear in Candie' s TV adverts and allow Candie's advisors to style fans at her shows.

Some fans are outraged by Fergie's decision to promote a product in her music, insisting it tarnishes her and the Black Eyed Peas' credibility.

Rickie Durtado, who runs a Los Angeles rap website, fumed: "Since 1988 the Black Eyed Peas have been a socially responsible band who stood against the bling-bling materialism of rap.

"But since Fergie joined the group four years ago they have become more like a boy band.

"Fans are used to advertising banners at festivals, but making them part of the song is not cool. There is no escape."
First off, I'd like to express my obvious displeasure at this. If anyone really need more money from their music it's the struggling indie bands out there, not Fergie. This is just ridiculous, you have to pay to listen to jingle that Fergie get paid to sing (unless you download her songs illegally). What is the logic in this? At the very least we should get the song for free. Do we pay to see ads on TV? Do we pay to hear commercials on the radio? Oh yeah, we pay for the electricity to run the TV or the radio to watch/listen to commercials but I doubt that electricity companies share the money the get with the artist.

Secondly, I don't think any song by Fergie, with or without product placement, has ever or will ever go down my throat smoothly. I distinctly remember the sensation of having to cough water out of my lungs. I usually don't choke on water (which always just flow smoothly pass my larynx and into my oesophagus without any trouble) unless I see or hear something extremely ridiculous and attempt the impossible multi-task of laughing and swallowing water. The last time I heard a Fergie's song was the horrible "London Bridge". It wasn't really the ridiculous music, the retarded lyrics or the awful vocal as much as the humping dance she did to the poor London guard. Who ever came up with that dance is seriously mentally deficient. How is that supposed to turn anyone on? If I see anyone doing that to another person I would think that the dancer is on some sort of sex heat and needs to hump anyone/anything that is humpable.

Thirdly, how can having product placement tarnish Fergie's credibility when she doesn't have any to start with?

------------------------------
Background material:
The ridiculous humping dance start at 0:48. Luckily, this time I'm fully prepared and am not drinking any sort of fluid or ingesting any solid. However, the song still refuses to go down my throat.

walking

Another post about nothing in particular, I'm on holiday so what do you expect? You're supposed to do nothing (much) during holidays.

I took up walking again. It first started during the summer holiday through no initiation of my own. My mum made me do it. She was worried that she'd develop a heart condition if she doesn't exercise. She doesn't have any heart condition but she was worried nonetheless. So she started walking and she nagged me to do it. Nagging is annoying and the only way to stop the nagging is just do whatever the nagger wants. So I started walking. It wasn't very fun in summer, nothing but going swimming is fun in the forty-degree heat of the summer. But for winter, it's perfect.

I was feeling restless but too lazy to go out properly so walking solved that. Plus I'm listening to this book while walking. It's a great book but the guy who reads it has this monotone voice that would put you into sleep if you listen to it sitting or lying down. After one week of walking I've noticed this: only old people and mothers of toddlers walk to exercise. Oh yeah, and me. I'm fine with it really, at least I do some sort of exercise instead of planting myself firmly in the couch playing Halo like I did last year. I also found that you should never say hello to people your age while walking.

I'm not usually a friendly person when I walk to and from the train station. How can you be friendly when you're either out of breath because you're running late for the train or fucking pissed-off because of the idiots you have to stand next to on the train home? But when I walk to exercise I'm super friendly, I say hello to the people who walk in the opposite direction as me if they happen to be on the same side of the road. It'd be weird if you say hello to the people on the footpath on the other side of the road. Old people and little kids always say hello back. Even dogs sometimes do too. Of course they do it in a non-verbal way. Mothers of toddlers don't usually say hello back. I think they're too busy either being exhausted by their kids or being worried why suddenly there's this person saying hello to them. They're probably wondering if I have ulterior motives or something. One group of people you should never say hello to is highschool kids. I said hi to a group once and they looked at me like I'm from Mars. Obnoxious highschool kids.

Usually I don't initiate conversation with highschool kids for reason stated above. However, those obnoxious brats always the ones who initiate a sort of one-way conversation that always ends with me being fucking pissed-off. Oh those brats, they think they're so witty. I was in a shopping center a few weeks ago, minding my own business as usual, in walked two highschool chicks (who I was sure were wagging school because they looked too young to be in senior school and it was around 11 am so school couldn't have let out yet). They walked past me, one of them said hello to me in Chinese and the other one busted out laughing. I mean WTF? One way to piss me off is to speak Chinese to me, the other way is to laugh at me for no apparent reason. If I slip, land on my face and someone laughs at me I wouldn't be pissed-off at them, because at least there is a reason for them to laugh.

And then last week, I was walking my usual route, minding my own business as per usual. I walked past 2 guys standing in a corner of a street on the other side of the road. They said hello and waved at me. First I've said this before don't say hello to people you don't know who is on the other side of the road, it's weird but anyway, they initiated it, who am I to not be my friendly self? At least they said it in English. So I waved back and they started laughing. What the fuck is wrong with the young people in the area where I live? Do they all have this affliction to laugh for no apparent reason? The only reason, that I can think of, for their hilarity is that they didn't expect me to wave back at them. Maybe they thought I wouldn't understand the word "hello". Idiots, those two.

Before you ask, I don't do funny waves, I don't even do the retarded waves the royalties do. My wave is so normal usually people ignore it altogether so there is no reason why they should laugh at my wave.

Ok, that's all for now, here are two picture of a dead animal I saw on the footpath while walking. Does anybody know what it is? It's about 6 cm long and it's hairless.

why I don't like instant messages

Here's one question I kinda got a lot: "Why are you never on MSN/Yahoo!/etc..?". I often reply to that with "Because I don't like to chat". And that answer usually provokes more questions. I guess in the end it all boils down to this: I'm not the chatty type plus instant messengers make me nervous, frustrated and under-appreciated.

I used to like instant messengers. A lot. Back in the good ol'day (i.e. year 10). I was kinda addicted to it, went online just to see if there is any "friends" online and struck up conversations with strangers in weird chat rooms and all. Some of the conversations I got was quite interesting too. I once chatted with this total stranger who was in Moscow during winter. He said that it was a nice warm winter day there and that it was -5 degrees Celsius there. Gee, if that is warm I wonder what is the definition for cold.

You grow out of the things you used to like in your early teen years eventually. I was addicted to Hip-Hop and R'n'B at the time too. Needless to say, I don't necessarily enjoy any of the things I used to like in year 10 now. Have you ever had that sudden realisation that you had horrible tastes back in your early teenage years? I was at a party recently and Backstreet Boys (the old stuffs, not the horrible Incomplete stuff) was on. I haven't listened to any of their old stuff since 2002, it was quite an elating as well as appalling experience. On the one hand, you start to feel whatever emotions you used to feel when you first heard the songs (which was sort of an elated feeling for me), it's like reliving your primary school days. On the other hand, your present self really listens to the godawful tacky lyrics and just wanna shut down your ears (but the music is still freaking catchy).

Back to why I don't like to chat, I don't exactly know when it started but I guess I stopped chatting and started reading some time in the beginning of year 11. I tried to get back into the habit of chatting but it wasn't much of a success for a few reasons.

I hate to wait. With instant messages, you have to type, hit send then wait to get the reply. Sometimes you typed out something that is quite thought-out and witty and the person on the other side for whatever reason (usually it's chatting with multiple other persons) is too busy to fully read and realise how much effort you put into your message and replies with the stupid LOL or sometimes if they feel exceptionally generous with their muscle use they'll type ROFL and adds a smiley and then nothing else. Naturally, once you see ROFL or LOL you'd think (or maybe it's only me) that they're too busy laughing out loud or too busy rolling on the floor laughing because of your oh-so-witty message to type out a coherent reply to it and they would do so once they've fought off the urge to LOLing or ROFLing. But no, you receive no other message after that, not even a stupid "[insert witty username here] is typing a message" from the messenger. So you wait, and wait and nothing happens. Naturally you assume they're not interested in having a "conversation" with you any more so you turn off the chat windows and get on doing whatever you were doing before they started the conversation with you. Two hours later, up pops the messenger window, complete with doorbell sounds (which always, always makes me jump with anything but joy and which makes me nervous) and with one deadpan question: "where did you go?". Huh, funny you should ask, I got such a hilarious reply from you I haven't stop LOLing and ROFLing for 2 hours.

Chatting online is, of course, a great way to keep in touch, no one can deny that but do we really wanna keep in touch with the people we see every single weekday? Is there really a lot of things that can happen between the time you say "see ya" to them at 5pm and the time you log on your instant messengers at 8pm? Really. And if something really exciting did happen between 5pm and 8pm, I would think that you'll be able to wait until 9am the next day to tell them to their face and see their reactions. Of course it would be an exception if I win five million dollars from a lottery ticket that I picked up on the train on the way home, but then I'd be too excited to log on to the messenger to start chatting and too rich to even care about phone bills to use messengers anyway. I'd much prefer talking and if you know me I don't usually like to talk much so you know it really is a special something when I say I prefer talking. At least with an actual conversation, you know, the oral kind, you can be sure that the person talking to you isn't talking to umpteen other people.

What about the friends that you don't see everyday, you might ask. Well chatting with them is always fun for me as long as I don't do it every single day. Ever heard of the saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder"? It really does, or rather lack of regular contacts makes the heart grow fonder, try it sometimes.

With that said, sometimes I don't like chatting with old friends at all. The really old friends, like the ones you know back in primary school in another country before you move to country you currently live. Those are not fun at all. They don't like chatting in English and I don't like chatting in Vietnamese since it's confusing and I have to spend a lot of time trying to spell everything correctly to actually enjoy the conversation. So naturally, they assume that I'm a snob for using English to chat with them or for using Vietnamese with the occasional English words for whatever words that I can't remember how to spell in Vietnamese or can't even remember what the equivalent of that English words in Vietnamese are. And then there's the wow-how-much-have-you-changed conversation which always makes me feel like they don't like the way I've changed. What do you mean how much have I changed? Of course I have to change, you can't move to another country and stay exactly the same, can you? You stay in the same country and you've changed, how can I not?

Yahoo! Mail has just got this new feature in their Beta. Now you can chat in the browser without having to install the messenger. I didn't care about this much at first. I put it on invisible or offline all the time so no one would start talking to me. But then the offline messages from deep past friends started to flow in. Before I can use the excuse of not having a messenger installed on my computer to avoid those messages, now, there's no way of escaping. It's not that I don't like to hear from them, I just don't like to feel judged and snobbish every time I chat with them.

So to conclude a very long post: I don't like instant messages.

3 glorious weeks of holiday

Finally exams are over on Thursday, I thought I would be doing a lot catchup on sleeping but as it turned out, I spent more time awake than when I was studying for exams.

I think I have a motivation problem. I'm motivated to do anything but studying apparently. At least I'm taking the first step in solving my problem: I acknowledged that I have a problem with motivation, great to know I'm not in the denial stage. Now let's see what's the next step? Find something to motivate myself I guess. I hit a brick wall there, there's nothing, absolutely nothing. That's when I attempted to start reading "100 ways to motivate yourself" by Steve Chandler. I said attempted because, so far, I haven't found the motivation to read the book yet.

One thing I don't need any motivation to do is procrastination. And my current favourite place to procrastinate is Last.fm. If you don't know what it is, here's the wikipedia entry for it. And if you're not motivated enough to click on that link and read a whole page of explanation, here's my one paragraph explanation:

Last.fm is a internet radio and music community where users can track their listening habits, display them for anyone with an internet access to see and get similar artists recommendations. Or at least that is the intended purpose of the site. There is always some crazy dickheads who would turn everything into a big competition for "who can listen to more songs from their favourite band so that their avatar can appear on the band's page for one week".

Anyhow, it doesn't sound very interesting and frankly I had misgivings about this when I first signed up in January. I didn't feel like it was a good idea tracking my listening habit which was why I didn't install the tracking program. But once you get started, it's awesome. I discovered my favourite band this week through Last.fm. Actually, I discovered more amazing artists this month than I did the last 2 years. Some of my current favourite artists are quite a surprise for me. Take Feist for example, I didn't think I would like her music but it was actually crazily calming and addictive.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, get a Last.fm account, start scrobbling and discover awesome music. I did and, boy, I love it.

And now to some new music to listen to: Interpol. Their new album "Our love to admire" has leaked so go to wherever you usually get your illegal leaked music and download it then buy the album when it comes out on July 10. My verdict after 3 listens is: I like it.

snakes on a plane

No, this is not a movie review. The movie isn't out in Australia yet. This is just merely my thoughts on this movie or rather, the movie title. I read this article in The Age last Friday about this movie and how it's attracting a cult even before being released. I fail to see how on earth can anything with such a lame title attract any cult. Seriously, what is this movie about? It's a movie about snakes and they are on a plane. Duh!

What usually works for me is I see a movie title, I get curious, I go see it. This title doesn't make me curious. I don't like snakes, I don't love snakes and I think anything that has anything to do with planes is going to suck big time. Why don't I like planes in movie? Because any movie with a plane is going to have either a psychopath killing/kidnapping on a plane (example: red eye, flight plan) or it's gonna involve lamely executed emergency landing by an amateur or it's gonna involve some terrorist plot. No, planes are too lame. Snakes on plane are even lamer.

Why? Why would a few hundred snakes be on a plane? Why? I suppose I have to see the movie to know but really, there is no logical way to have a few hundred snakes on a passenger plane. Even if you can get a few hundred snakes on a passenger plane they would have been locked up, not crawling around biting people without being provoked first. What is the movie world coming to? What's next for us to see? Dinosaurs on a space station?

So what's the hell is in this movie to make it attract a cult? Maybe it's because of the fact that Samuel L. Jackson is in it. But then you have to admit that good actors sometime involve in really bad movies (example: Chalize Theoron - Aeon Flux; Angelina Jolie - Tomb raider) so you can't say that a movie that has SLJ is going to be fabulous. I don't care if he's the "epitome of cool" or not. I'm defintely NOT going to see this movie.

the most useless princess

I've just had one of my off-days. I'm sick, I have a headace the size of Africa and to top it all I have a blocked nose and a sore throat. This combination is lethal when you have lectures in the afternoon. I was half asleep through most of the lectures and hence I got time to ponder upon the question of "what would happen if I can sleep for a whole week, straight?". So one question lead to another and I was thinking about Sleeping Beauty after 5 seconds.

I've always thought that Sleeping Beauty is the most useless princess of all the Disney's princesses. Other princesses like Snow White or Cinderella have to go through some sort of ordeal and then meet their Prince. What does Sleeping Beauty have to do? She only needs to listen to her fairy god mothers and not get near any spindles. But no she has to prick her finger and fall into a deep sleep and wait for her prince to rescue her.

My point is, she doesn't do anything! And expect someone else to rescue her out of the hole that she digs herself! What would feminists say about Sleeping Beauty?
